Blogaversary || Part 6 } Connections

Catch up here:

via

During this last year I have made so many dear friends.  This quote above stuck out when I came across it on pinterest.  While blogging about my life and about reading about others, we have come to know one another in a deeper way.  We share about things in our space that we most times do not get to share face to face with others, even our family.  For those who take the time to visit my space and read about my life will understand more about me than I do about myself sometimes.  Same for when I read about someone in their space.

We just "get it", we get where the other person is coming from without even needing any more details.  I have made so many connections and our lives are intertwined forever.  Even though there have been and will be bloggers who's life stages will bring their blogging days to a close and they may move on, we have shared a bit of our lives with one another that will always remain.  Through all the celebrations, challenges, and heartache, these types of relationships can't help but change us.

I am so grateful for all the connections I have made and am so happy for all the friends I have gained.  I am looking forward to meeting more of you through your comments or visiting your blogs and interacting with you in social media.

I truly do care about each of you deeply although I may not get to connect with you each regularly or individually.  Thank you all for a wonderful first year and for helping me to grow as a person.  I have learned so much about myself  and have taken so much from each of you.

I close out my first blogaversary celebration with the final 4 interviews.  First up is Tracy from Dear Life, from a Mom of Boys.  I had the privilege of meeting Tracy and her oldest son Keoni when they came here to Hawaii to get him settled for college.  Although we were only able to meet for a few short hours, we were already deeply connected before we met face to face.  It was like we had known each other out whole lives.  Tracy has a special journey as a mom who has been blessed with a son with spina bifida.  I can relate to Tracy because my 7 yr old was born with special needs.  We get one another and had so much to talk about regarding our experiences and offers of resources for our kids.  Her family is such an inspiration and I am so happy that God allowed us to connect in the blog community.

YOUR FIRST BLOGAVERSARY STORY:

I have not yet reached my first blogaversary.  I started writing a blog to just simply write.  I love writing, and I love reading other people’s blog.  The thing I did not expect is the friendships and support the blogging world has given me.

HOW HAS A LITTLE PIECE OF ME INSPIRED OR ENCOURAGED YOU?

Your blog is always beautiful written and you have never been afraid to share even the most difficult things.  I bonded with you over your trials and triumphs....and when I was lucky enough to meet you I realized that you will be a friends for life.  I am so truly blessed to be able to call you friend!

Next up is Kate from A Creative Cookie.  A creative cookie is right.  Not sure why I keep thinking she blogs about cookies.  Maybe it's just because I love cookies.  Hahaha!  Kate is so creative and I love all her projects.  You must check it out.

YOUR FIRST BLOGAVERSARY STORY:

“Hi! My name is Kate and I blog over at A Creative Cookie. Since I haven’t reached my first blogaversary yet (October!), I’m going to share with you how I started my blog, and why.
I used to often fantasize on owning my own website – I would hold monthly contests, give away prizes, become an online celebrity. I didn’t really think of a blog as a personal way to share my stories. That was because I had never read one before.

I’ve had a few blogs before. But now I feel like I had no idea what I was doing! One day I came across two fabulous blogs: See Kate Sew and Me Sew Crazy that I fell in love with! I read them all the time and commented on all their posts. One day I realized that I wanted to do the same thing… and A Creative Cookie was born.

I had my blogs for a few months, and I didn’t really know what I was supposed to write about. So I stuck to the main – crafts. Once I became a little more familiar with the blogging world, I wrote about lots of things and even ventured out to social media.

I eventually discovered linky parties, which I participated in and dedicated part of my nights to trying to be #1 on each linky list. My blog started getting more page views and comments, and started growing. It has been ever since. Thanks to link parties, my blog became known. So if you’ve never heard of them before, you better jump on board!

Now my blog has gotten a new design, and I’m planning on lots of new ways to make it unique. I am so excited about what’s coming in the future and I can’t wait to share it with you!”

HOW HAS A LITTLE PIECE OF ME INSPIRED OR ENCOURAGED YOU?

“Salena was one of the first bloggy friends I knew. I came to really know her when I won a little Facebook contest on her page and got ad space. I’m so glad that I won – Salena has been so helpful and I’m so happy I “met” her!

Her blog has been incredibly inspiring, and the story of Dakota is so touching. It has shown me just how great God truly is. One thing I’ve found about blogging is how Salena and other wonderful bloggers have refreshed my faith. Thank you, Salena, for everything!”

Next up is Pamela from Pamela's Heavenly Treats.  Pamela and I have a lot of kids, I have one more than her but she has a set of twins!!  =)  Pamela has been such a sweet voice in my comment section.  Always encouraging and You can find all her yummy treats at her etsy shop here.

YOUR FIRST BLOGAVERSARY STORY:

I have been blogging since January 2012, and I just started as a way to promote my new business, but now its much more than that, I love all the comments that my followers leave for me each day.

HOW HAS A LITTLE PIECE OF ME INSPIRED OR ENCOURAGED YOU?

I love the realness of your blog, you have such a humble presence in the way you write your posts.  That helps me to know what people like to read, its the way you write your message that helps you gain more followers that are not your follower because of giveaways but because they are committed.

Last but not least is Jennifer from Jenni Austria Germany.  I met Jennifer when she won ad space on my blog.  I love that she blogs about her travels and her life in a foreign country.  Being born, raised and living in Hawaii for my entire life it's nice to see what the rest of the world looks like.  =)

YOUR FIRST BLOGAVERSARY STORY:

I was just happy to have kept up my travel log for so long, knowing that my family and friends back home were able to regularly follow along with my adventures abroad.

HOW HAS A LITTLE PIECE OF ME INSPIRED OR ENCOURAGED YOU?

Without your blog, I never would have found your adorable shop.  The onesie I ordered for my niece is so cute - she is going to look so precious as soon as she is old enough to wear it!  It's my favorite thing I've given her (and as an aunt who loves to spoil her nieces and buys a LOT of stuff, this is saying something).

Stay tuned for the WINNER of the Huge Blogaversary Giveaway!!

Blogaversary || Part 5 } Being Real

Catch up here:
part 2
part 1

via

Being real about who you are or about your life is not always easy.  I still find myself being faced with things I would not share when I come across others who write about things I would never think to write about.  It's times like these when I feel completely connected with them.  Being able to relate to someone else, especially when they open up about something you would be too ashamed for others to know or on something you feel like you just can't re-live, can bring healing that you have never known.  When you are real about who you are, you draw those near who need encouragement and hope.  I will never forget the emails and comments I have received over this last year from those of you who for the first time felt like someone else "gets me".  I feel the same way about other bloggers who stop and take the time to share about who they really are.  I love the blogging community.  We are here longing to connect and to make a difference for someone else.  Whether it's faith, DIY, tutorials, fashion, make up, etc... we all want to share what we know with others.  When we take the time to pause, take a step back and share about the real us behind the blog and what we decide to share in our space, it brings us together and bonds us closer together.  Although I have only met one blogger face to face, I have been blessed by so many real friends who get me for me.

Today I have Jennifer from My Adventures Through Motherhood and Kelsey from Poofy Cheeks Boutique!  I have known Jennifer from the beginning of blogging.  She is so sweet and her blog is warm and inviting where she shares about motherhood.  I love her post on her nursery reveal, it's so lovely and I love how she decorated it!  Kelsey stepped forward for a call for sponsors for one of my giveaways.  She is so creative and her shop has such cute things!  I love her craft room reveal, I would love to have a space like that!

YOUR FIRST BLOGAVERSARY STORY:

My one year is this month but I just had our baby girl august 14th so I am be postponing my celebration for a while. I began blogging when my son was born in 09. It was my way of being able to document our life. A way for friends and family to catch up with us. Then I decided to take my blog public. It quickly grew and I began to meet so many amazing bloggers. The last few months I’ve slacked on keeping up, but fully plan on coming back full force once I am into a regular routine with both kids and life. I love sharing my experiences as a mother with others. And look forward to sharing my journey as a mom of two. Its been an incredible journey thus far and I can’t wait to share more of my experiences!

HOW HAS A LITTLE PIECE OF ME INSPIRED OR ENCOURAGED YOU?

Salena is an amazing, kind hearted loving soul. She has been supportive of my blog. She is always offering kind words of encouragement. She is real. She doesn’t sugar coat anything, and to me that is inspiring when sharing my experiences. I am so glad to have met you Salena. Thank you for all of your love and support! Congrats on your one year blogaversary! Thank you for letting me be part of this amazing celebration xoxo

YOUR FIRST BLOGAVERSARY STORY:

I started blogging after having my second son. I felt stuck in my house, alone and needed a way to outlet my energy and creativity. I came across a blog called The Starr Family blog and knew I wanted to do what Kate was doing. She was a mom of two, had an awesome eye for home decor, witty and was rockin' it on her blog! I started following her blog, started writing my own blog, and though we haven't met in real life we email back and fourth often. She is on a bloggin hiatus, but without her inspiration I am not sure where I would be right now!

HOW HAS A LITTLE PIECE OF ME INSPIRED OR ENCOURAGED YOU?

The first time I remember reading a post on A Little Piece of Me was right after I had experienced a miscarriage. I was reading through some of the blogs that I follow when this post came across my reader. I had experienced a miscarriage a few weeks earlier, and it was like He put this here for me to read. I could relate to almost every word Salena wrote, and I was so comforted knowing that I wasn't alone. Though I hated we both experienced this horrible pain in our hearts, I was glad that she was sharing her feelings and thoughts. That post helped me realize that all of the feelings I had were normal because at the time I just felt lost and confused in my own sadness.

What is your purpose for blogging?  Would you consider perhaps taking a step back and sharing about the real you behind your blog?

Stay tuned for Part 6!

Blogaversary || Part 4 } Inspiration

Catch up here:
part 3
part 2
part 1

Today I have Kristine from The Foley Fam (aka J&M's Eye Candy) and Maria-Isabel from Agape Love Designs.

Kristine is super fun loving and the life of the party.  Her family is so adorable and I love that she has regular date nights with her husband.  They are an inspiration and always have such great ideas to have fun together.  Kristine has been such a dear friend, always willing to stop what she's doing to give advice and has helped me through some tough decisions in my past year.  Well, may be simple to some but for me, it was a big deal.  =)

YOUR FIRST BLOGAVERSARY STORY:

I hit my one year Blog-iversary this past May! Time flies when you're having fun!! My blog has been such a blessing to me, and I enjoy making connections with others.

HOW HAS A LITTLE PIECE OF ME INSPIRED OR ENCOURAGED YOU?

Salena and I found each other thru the blogging world shortly after I started blogging. I consider her a genuine "real" friend and find such inspiration thru her blog. THANKS girl for letting me be a part of your celebration!

Maria-Isabel is such a sweet soul.  Her family is gorgeous, I swear they all walked off the cover of a magazine.  The first time I saw her blog button I was drawn by how gorgeous she was.  I love her blog where she shares fabulous DIY tutorials on makeup and accessories.  She has a really cute fashion sense too.  However, her weight loss story and getting healthy posts have blown me away.  She's really an inspiration and is looking amazing!  This inspires me because I have a lot of weight to lose but am still looking for the motivation that will get me to where she is.

YOUR FIRST BLOGAVERSARY STORY:

When I first started my blog I had no clue about the blog world. I had no idea what I would do with my blog. It wasn't until my blog was over a year old that I finally new what I was doing and really got my blog going. So I unfortunately I never celebrate a blogaversary because I don't have a real official start date! I always think about celebrating one year, then forget! lol

HOW HAS A LITTLE PIECE OF ME INSPIRED OR ENCOURAGED YOU:

I am still new to A Little Piece of Me, but I am in awe of what a beautiful and wonderful Mother you are!

Blogaversary || Part 3 } Confidence

Catch up here:
part 2
part 1

When I first started this blog there were times when I doubted myself.  Not knowing what to write and weighing if what I shared would be too much or too vague.  There are times I still do, I think that's human nature.  When you are honest and real about yourself not only do you connect with others in the way God intends for you, it's a healing process when you see your life making a difference in others.  Sometimes the lessons we need to learn in this life only come from seeing your challenges come full circle by inspiring others with your story.

When we compare ourselves to others I believe it delays our lessons, puts everything on hold.  Everybody is different, we are all at different places and stages of our lives for a reason.  We need each other.  When was the last time someone shared something with you that was so familiar to you that in that exact moment something inside you filled you with so much confidence and hope that you knew exactly what to say and what to do?  It's funny because you can try to convince them that everything will be okay because you've been there but unless they truly experience it all on their own and go through each stage like you did, they will never see it.

One of the reasons I love writing my blog is all the women who read it.  So many women have come forward and shared with me about how they experienced loss, through miscarriage, or lost their baby, struggled with infertility but have NEVER shared it with anyone.

I've been told I have so much courage but I don't see it that way.  For me, talking about these things helps me.  It helps me to talk about what is real, about things that have happened to me and to remember my babies even though I have never met them.  I know there are others out there suffering and grieving for the lost future of their babies that they were planning for the moment they found out they were pregnant.

Being a mom is hard.  Not only is there so much work involved, the responsibility is a huge one.  When my 3 older kids were little, I used to say "if they are still alive by bedtime" I did my job.  Joking of coarse but thinking it was enough.  3 more kids and 2 miscarriages later, I know it's not enough.  It's never enough.  I fail everyday.  I doubt myself.  There are some days when you do what you can with what you know in the moment and do the best you can.  I believe that right there gives us confidence as moms.  God gives us what we need at the exact time we need it.  Whatever knowledge we have at the time is what God has instilled in us and it's enough.  It's for a reason.

When others who are watching our lives and our decisions see us living in confidence, it breeds confidence in others.  I have seen this happen since I have been writing this blog.  So many of us are comparing ourselves to one another and it gets us no where.  I too need to remind myself that I am who I am, I am perfect the way I am and there are so many people who love me for me, not who I think I need to be.

I'm learning, from blogging, that I must embrace who I am as an individual because I have so much to give.  I 'm always inspired by others who share the real them and who are raw and transparent.  Those are the ones I am drawn to because they help me to see that I'm not alone and that it's okay to be yourself, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Here are 2 more dear friends of mine I have met through blogging.  Brooke from Covered in Grace and Megan from Absolute Mommy.  Brooke is a breath of fresh air and is so fun-loving!  We are going to meet face to face soon and I can't wait.  Megan is one of those raw and transparent mommas who always inspires me with her honesty.

YOUR FIRST BLOGAVERSARY STORY:

I missed my first blogiversary. It was June 7th of 2010 and at that time, I'd only posted around a dozen or so blogs. It wasn't actually until February 2011 that I began blogging regularly. I'd began a 100 day photo challenge and was pretty good about posting almost every day. But again...I missed my next blogiversary. June 7, 2011 rolled around, I was 2 years into my blog and I posted about a Rusty Harbor that I'd taken photos of. I'm still proud of that post. I took all of the photos with the camera on my phone. Anyways, even 2 years in, I still considered myself a baby blogger back then. I didn't know what a blogiversary was. Finally, in Feb of this year,  I began networking. Really networking. I broke down and opened up a Twitter account and began talking and sharing with other bloggers. By June 7th of 2012 I was so into this blogging thing. It had largely become a part of my daily life and I was loving it. I had a giant giveaway to celebrate my 3rd blogiversary, among other things. I guess third time's a charm. I finally got the "blogiversary" concept. And I've got to say... I am loving it all!

HOW HAS A LITTLE PIECE OF ME INSPIRED OR ENCOURAGED YOU?

Salena's blog never disappoints. Every time I read something she's written, it touches me in some way or another. And every time I finish her post, I'm left feeling both guilty of slacking (in my writing) and inspired to write more posts from the heart. Salena is a lady to follow, a lady to befriend. I'm so looking forward to meeting her in person very soon.

YOUR FIRST BLOGAVERSARY STORY:

On my blog anniversary my bloggy friends pulled out all the stops for me!!  They sponsored my very first giveaway, and those wonderful sisters at The Letter 4 even made me a free printable (attached).  It was awesome!

HOW HAS A LITTLE PIECE OF ME INSPIRED OR ENCOURAGED YOU?

I found Salena and her blog when she announced her pregnancy last year.  I was so excited for her after reading her story.  I was also heartbroken when she announced that she had lost that baby over Thanksgiving.  I felt like I was a friend of hers and wanted to hug her.  We have never met, but I just felt like I knew her so well via her blog.  The reason for that is that she is so honest and true to what she writes.  I love reading about her family and how she does this momma job with 100% of herself.  She has taught me faith and grace, and the power of prayer.

I'm so grateful for all the friendships I have made this last year.  Stay tuned for Part 4!
