{Tutorial} Handpainted Scott's Wedges

This is a fun way to decorate plain black slippers into something more girly.  Not only does it look pretty, it helps to identify who it belongs to.  Here in Hawaii, everyone wears slippers daily.  Although these are Scott's which are expensive but super durable, there are times when you go to someone's house or have visitors at your house, or go to a party and when it's time to leave you find them missing and are never recovered.  These are the girl version of Scott's so there is a little wedge heel which is super cute, I wish they had this style in womens.

So, I totally forgot to take photos for a tutorial but I thought it was a great idea to share anyway.

Step 1: Choose your pair of slippers

Step 2: Gather your choice of nail polish or fabric paint.  I used nail polish in white and fushia.

Step 3: Decide on your design.  My daughter chose dot flowers and wanted the white to be the center.

Step 4: Add your design

Step 5: Air dry.  This one dried fast because I used the fast dry nail polish.

Now my daughter has a cute pair of slippers which are unique and one of a kind and no one will mistaken them as theirs.

This concept is not new.  It is common to find nail polish dots in the front center of rubber slippers here in Hawaii so you can tell your slippers apart from others.  Well, that and the sharpie marker name written on the sides.  They all look so much alike.

We started off with the idea of gluing buttons on or tying fabric scraps or a fabric flower.  There are really endless ideas for this idea.

Hope you found this helpful.  =)

Tutorial:: DIY Pinata

This is the pinata I made for my granddaughter's birthday party.  I have made one in the past using the paper bag technique but I was all out of paper bags I used the first box I saw just laying around my house.

Tip: When making a pinata for a 3 yr old birthday party, you may not want to use a USPS shipping box because it is thick and sturdy and you will need to cut the bottom open for the candy to fall out.  =)

Supplies needed:
box
glue gun
tape
scissors
picture
colored tissue paper or streamers
white paper or tissue paper
string

This is so easy to make and everyone loved it.  This was made with extra stuff I had saved at home already so this was = Free.  Something like this would probably cost $25 at the store.  Yay for Mama Salena saving Saphire money!!!  =)

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  Happy pinata making and hitting!!!
xoxo, Salena

Easy Christmas Gifts For Kids To Pass Out At School

Today I'm going to show you an easy and cheap gift for kids to pass out to friends at school for the holidays.

This is the 4th year my daughter is giving these icicle ornaments as gifts.
Every year she chooses a different color and I package it in different ways.

This year she chose red.

Gather supplies
1 - box of 24 icicle ornaments ($2.97 at Walmart)
Fabric of your choice (She chose this one over a green Hawaiian print)
Scrapbook paper of your choice (I chose green since the ornament was red)

Cut down the scrap paper square into a letter size sheet.
Choose a fancy font on your computer and print out a festive greeting by running it through your printer.

Cut down to size 4" x 2"

Cut fabric into 1" x 4" strips

Tie fabric strip onto icicle.

Cut 2 slits in paper and slip ornament in.
Whoala!  There you have it.

Simple, easy, cheap
and most of all
Aleshanee is super excited to pass them out at her Christmas party tomorrow at school!!

Let me know if you have any questions.

What will your child be handing out at school this year?  Do you have any creative ideas to share?  I'd LOVE to hear them!!
