Dear Husband...

Dear Husband,
I don't need to tell you how crazy things have been lately.  We both feel it in different ways.  It's so crazy that we have not been able to catch time alone to re-group and talk everything through like we should.  As the leader of our family, I know how much pressure you are under and how much responsibility you carry.  It may not seem like I understand or like I notice but I do.  Sometimes I wish there was more I could do but I'm only human.  I make mistakes.  I fail, everyday.  I don't know how you do it.  There is so much you are dealing with personally while shuffling things around to make sure our family has what we need.  Things are not perfect but you always seem to keep me calm and know just the right things to say when needed.  Although at times it seems like you have no clue what's going on or how to talk to me, I want you to know that you are what I need.  I love you.  I miss you when you are away.  Time is going by so quickly.  I'm looking forward to the day when the kids are older so that you and I will be able to have more alone time to catch up and to just be still enjoying one another.
All my love,
sb

September 16th – Revive Your Friendship

September 23rd - Revive Your Praise

September 30th - Revive Your Sex Life

This topic has always been a hard one in our marriage.  We are not the typical couple where the husband wants s*x all the time or initiates all the time.  We are opposite.

Typically it's the husband who
initiates
desires it
obsesses about it
begs
pleads
can't keep his hands off his wife
thinks about it all day
... but this is me

Typically it's the wife who
makes excuses
does not desire it
will not initiate
only thinks about how to avoid it
puts it off
doesn't want to be touched
does not think about it at all
... but this is my husband

We are the opposite.  This gets pretty frustrating.  We were designed by God very differently and some of our challenges come with different health challenges and some medicines we are taking.  Finding balance is so hard.  For the typical couple it's hard enough but with us being opposites we have yet to come across a sermon at church or resources which touch on this type of situation.

I know we are not the only one but have yet to come across another couple with such extremes as we are.  If you are in the same boat as us, please  contact me, I'd love to hear how you handle your intimacy and make it work.  We've been married 15 years and still have to work on it.

The challenge for me will be to keep being myself and to pray for my husband and I to have the patience for one another and our differences.

Love Your Husband by Gloria Baird is a wonderful book.  When I first read it years ago, it changed my perspective so quick on the way I viewed my marriage and my husband.  This is another book I've been wanting needing to read again.

Topics covered in the book are:

  • remember your vow
  • a suitable helper
  • adult to adult
  • effective communication
  • hitting the bumps
  • attitude is everything
  • intimacy for life
  • sexual specifics
  • and baby makes three, four, five
  • enjoying the empty nest

During my 15 years of marriage there has been many challenges.  Yes, there are instances when problems are caused directly because of my husband and vise versa.  I am a firm believer that attitudes can change if you have the right perspective.  Well, lets not say the "right" perspective, lets say a "different" perspective.  I once sat in a church service where the speaker was talking about rose colored glasses.  If you put on a different perspective, they said, your view will be changed.

When I read the book the first time, my husband noticed a huge difference.  My focus was taken off myself and what I wanted needed expected and instead was shifted towards compassion and unconditional love.  I forget that yes, I am a daughter of God but my husband is a son of God and that he chose us for one another.  We are supposed to be united but when our attitude or perception is off, we turn so quickly on one another.

I remember praying for God to bless me with someone.  Being a single mom with 3 young kids, I didn't think I would find someone.  With God all things are possible and eventually came my husband.  We went steady for a year before we got engaged and were married 3-1/2 months later.  I remember the day I knew I wanted to marry him.  It was almost 2 months before he asked me to be his girlfriend.  I remember our wedding day and I could not wait to finally get to spend the night with him and wake up in his arms.  It was a huge deal and I longed for that special feeling of having someone to end the day with and wake up with next to me.

Revive Your Marriage || .your prayers.

I've been wanting to start a focus on Marriage on Monday's for some time now. I stumbled upon this series and wanted to get in on it. It's a start right? =)

One of my favorite books is The Power of the Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian.  I have been wanting needing to read it again.  When I am focused on praying in detail (which she lays out in her book) for each category, it helps me to have compassion towards my husband rather than to be critical.  Being focused on prayer and fighting for my husband leaves little to complain about.

Here's some of the categories Stormie talks about in her book:

  • His Wife
  • His Work
  • His Finances
  • His Affections
  • His Temptations
  • His Fears
  • His Purpose
  • His Health
  • His Trials
  • His Integrity
  • His Priorities
  • His Fatherhood
  • His Past
  • His Attitude

I love the idea to let my wedding ring be a reminder to pray for my marriage and my husband.  I'm always looking at it, playing with it, twisting it, fixing it on my finger.  Each time I catch a glimpse, I can silently say a prayer no matter where I am or who I'm with.
