Ten Things About Me

If you follow me on instagram you have probably seen this already.  For those of you who don't, you can follow me here.  And I thought I'd add this to the blog for those who may only see this by coming here.  Note, I have added more details to each one here on the blog.

10 Things About Me

1. I prefer hanging out indoors. I hate getting sweaty or dirty.

2. I like milk chocolate.  If you don't want me eating your chocolate, put it in the fridge or freezer or buy dark chocolate.  I would need to be desperate for chocolate to though those.

3. My usual at Starbucks are iced mocha or iced chai tea latte.

3. {yes it's 3 again, hey it's hard to type something like this out on mobile instagram}
I like sterling silver or white gold. The only gold I wear now is my wedding ring and my Hawaiian name bangle my husband got me for a wedding gift.

4. Beach days are not my thing although I'm born and raised in Hawaii.

5. It takes time to see the real me. I'm much funnier and outgoing than I seem.  You can see the real me more so through social media or here on this blog.

6. I drink diet soda not because I'm on a diet but because it was part of a past diet and now I don't like regular soda.

7. I prefer to not eat any meat but my husband won't do it so its a staple in our meals.

8. Currently obsessed with Criminal Minds, The Walking Dead, and Bates Motel.

9. I can't stand my natural curls and don't feel put together until I flat iron it.

10. I used to wear makeup, do my hair, and wear heels daily. I would not leave the house without earrings but if I did forget I would go out and buy a pair.

Is there anything you can relate to from my list?  Is there anything you'd like to share about yourself?  I'd love to hear it!

Getting To Know You #1: All About Your Blog

via

Getting To Know You #1: All About Your Blog

1) How did you come up with the name of your blog?
When I share things about my life whether experiences, lessons I have learned, hardships, or about my kids and family, they are all pieces of me.  "A Little Piece of Me" means that my blog is little pieces of me that I'm sharing with you.

2) What inspires your posts most?
Everyday life.  As I go on with my day if there is something inspiring or something on my heart I will put it in the next post.  Sometimes I play along with blog hops or link ups which are super fun or that I can relate to and that will give me the prompt on what to write about.

3) What is the greatest challenge you face when blogging?
Distractions which lead to me not being able to focus on what I'm writing.  My little girls are not on the same schedule so I wake up to at least one of them and I fall asleep with at least one of them, I hardly have free time blocked off just for me to think.

4) Besides blogging, what activities occupy your time?
Creating things for my handmade shop, managing my shop, never ending dishes and laundry, my girls, playground time, and errands on my husband's days off.

5) What got you into blogging in the first place?
I stumbled on to this blog and this blog and loved their honesty.  I could relate to them so well and I kept going back for more.  I started thinking "hey, can do this".  I love sharing about my life, to inspire others and to help others feel like they are not alone.  Then I stumbled on to this blog on her tantrums post and I left a comment.  She was the first ever blogger to reply to me personally through email and I was so impressed.  I mentioned that I was thinking of starting a blog and she told me to go for it.  Within 24 hours my blog was up and running.

6) Do you have any special projects on your blog? (linky parties, charities, events, weekly posts, etc).
I have a Group Giveaway at the end of each month.

7) From where do you post?

In my living room from my desk top computer.

8) Do you have any blogging words of wisdom to share?

Stay true to yourself.  Constantly remind yourself why you started your blog and stick to it.   There are so many other fabulous bloggers out there who are different than you.  It is very easy to get sidetracked by what they are doing and about all the "blogging" logistics and become overwhelmed that you can forget who you are in the crowd.  Ultimately, you have a voice.  Use it to encourage others, to speak where others can't, to be a positive role model in this world.  Blogging is a great resource to do so.  And ultimately have fun.  You will gain friends that you will love and build bonds that you never knew existed.

Necklace:: J&M's Eye Candy Shoppe

Hey guys, well I had so many great ideas for a post today.  I even had my Friday's Letters and Thankful Thursday posts started but in the end, I decided to save it for a later date.

You may have seen the photo above already but I did not share it here so I thought I'd pop that in there and give a shout out to Kristine at The Foley Fam.  Hey Kristine!!  The necklace I'm wearing is from her shop J&M's Eye Candy.  It's a triple fabric bloom necklace in mustard.  I honestly thought I would never wear it because it wasn't my style but I love it!  I won it in a giveaway a while back and only used it recently.  Go check out her shop!

So I thought I'd do a random facts instead, fun right?  Believe me, it's better than the deep downer post I had in mind.

 Random Facts About Me

1.  My name is SALENA.  I get the whole "Ooooo SE---LE---NA!!!" from the movie all.the.time.  Funny thing is Selena Quintanilla Perez is my doppelganger go check it out and tell me what you think.  Her photos are a splitting image to my younger photos, even my kids thought I was her.  As of late, one of the neighborhood kids now calls me "Aunty Salena (pauses) GOMEZ!!!"

2.  I am Hawaiian, Filipino, Japanese, and French. My mother is Japanese/French and my dad is Hawaiian/Filipino.

3.  I was raised in the Japanese culture and I love Japanese food.

4.  My dream when I was younger was to grow up and become a Kumu Hula (Hula Teacher). I danced hula since I was little and actually was the lead in our hula group for most of our performances. Not because I was better than the rest, it was because I was the tallest. I choreographed a Christmas hula for my 10th grade talent show at school for my hula class and we won 2nd place.

5.  I met Hulk Hogan and the late Randy Savage when I worked at Gold's Gym Hawaii years ago. I always remember that because Hulk Hogan asked me to spell my name when I asked for his autograph and he still spelled my name wrong.

6.  I am the oldest of 3 girls.

7.  Up till I was about 25 years old I thought I was Chinese, it says so on my birth certificate. Turns out my grandmother was adopted and her adopted certificate did not claim her being 100% Hawaiian.

8.  I love R&B, rap, top 10 music but never listen to it anymore unless I'm alone driving in my car. This is very rare. We either listen to no music or my husband's oldies, sometimes it can get quite annoying.

9.  When my 3 older kids were little and they misbehaved in the car I would put on some oldies station and blast it till they shaped up, it worked real fast. =)

10. Once when I took my oldest daughter for a test at a hospital, the receptionist checking her in said she needed an adult to check her in. I said I am and she asked me how old I was. Turns out she thought I was her friend and that I was younger than my daughter who was 17 at the time. So Funny.

11. I am so lost without LOST. I watched that show from the pilot and every episode till it ended. It is the best show that was ever made. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. It has an outcome that will blow your mind.

12. My favorite color is Pink but it all depends on my mood and what it's for.

13. I wish I could re-do my wedding day. A) Photos B) Video C) Enjoy and be in the moment

14. I hate summer because our day goes from 12 noon to 3am, me and my little girls that is. I know terrible. I am not a morning person so because my husband works nights, we shift our day to his.

15. August will be the start of just me and Hayden at home during the day and I am looking forward to it. Hoping to get more done around here and having the older two both be wiped out from an early day at school.

Well, that's about it for now.  Anything else you'd like to know?  Leave me a comment below.  Have a lovely weekend!!

I'm blank because...

I’m weird because…

I love the smell of fish food

I take a fully stocked diaper bag wherever I go, whether it’s for an all day outing or just a quick trip to the store.

I don’t consider it a meal for my kids unless it includes, starch, protein, and veggies.

I can leave the house with no plans, stay out all day and be totally content with just hanging out doing nothing with my family and return home completely fulfilled.

I will go up to anyone and talk to them if something inside urges me to.

When I buy new nail polish I come home to find out it’s the same color I already own, I tend to gravitate towards the same colors even though I try to venture out to try new ones

I’m a bad friend because...

I do not return phone calls right away. I need to wait till my kids are asleep or it will be a screaming match and no one will be heard

I spend all my time with my husband and little girls

I do not like to make plans ahead of time, it causes much anxiety with me as the time gets closer

I am distracted by my little girls all the time which leaves little time to focus on friends

I'm a good friend because...

I'm compassionate

I'm loyal

I would drop everything if you needed me

I'm a great listener

I'm generous

I have been through a lot in my life and would most likely be able to put myself in your shoes

I have a huge heart that loves everyone

I’m sad because…

I miscarried our first pregnancy

I have a frozen embryo waiting for a chance at life since 2004 with no money to implant it and am extremely fearful of another high risk pregnancy

We are in debt

We have no savings

My husband and I have not been on a date in a VERY long time, as in years, not weeks

Communication with my husband is really challenging

The future of my daughter with special needs is unknown and I worry about the outcome down the road

I want to lose weight but I have no motivation to do so

I struggle with depression and anxiety and it controls my life on most days

I did not pay more attention in school

I feel like I don't know who I am

My oldest daughter and her husband will be moving away again next year

My 4 year old is dealing with her near drowning back in June and only talks about it in bits and pieces and still shows no interest in getting back in the pool

I’m happy because…

Although each of us have our issues, everyone in my family is healthy and well

I have a big family who love me

I have a faithful husband

I have a roof over my head

No matter how many times I mess up, my kids still love me and ask for my advice

My 3 older kids are growing up to be amazing people

I was blessed with 3 little girls after 5 years of unexplained secondary infertility

I have made many new dear friends from blogging and have built genuine connections

I get lots of hugs, kisses, and snuggles throughout the day

I am a stay-at-home mom to my 3 little girls

I know I have friends and family who love me for me

My 4 year old survived her near drowning after being revived by her oldest sister

I’m excited for…

Christmas lights and music

all the holiday festivities

Thanksgiving dinner

Christmas goodies

the handmade ornament swap with my partner Kim

presents

celebrating our engagement anniversary on Christmas Eve and Day

the expression on my girls faces on Christmas morning

all my giveaway packages that will start arriving in my mailbox soon

This post was inspired by Ashley at Little Miss Momma. I was the first one to view hers and it took me this long to finish mine. To be honest, it was hard for me to fill this one out. There are a lot of others doing this writing prompt. Join in on the fun so I can learn more about you too.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a moment to read mine.

50 Questions

I saw this over here from Andi of PidgApeg and here from Nay of Cover to Cover and Everything In Between.

Where I'm From

I am from packs of trading cards filled with bubble gum, from ice cream trucks and sticker collections.

I am from two story townhouses fun, lively, warm.

I am from green leaves and hibiscus flower, yellow, red, bright.

I am from celebrating every special occasion and milestone and love, from Grandma May and Mommy and Dad.

I am from crazy laughter and creative generosity.

From treating others as you want to be treated and loving one another.

I am from only one God, one Spirit, one Church and believe that God is in control, everything happens for a reason, and God turns everything around for the good.

I’m from Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, a native Hawaiian, Japanese, French, Filipino, pizza and sushi.

From a man who became my dad by choice not by conception and has never stopped loving and caring for me as his very own, Grandma May who cared for her parents in their old age till they passed, a Mother who did the same for her mother and always puts her heart and soul into everything she does because of her love for others.

I am from hanging up on my loved ones walls to sitting saved on the family computer so that future generations to follow will learn of me, my impact to this world, and where they came from.

All my heart

Salena
