Guest Interview: Dear Life, From a Mom of Boys.

Tracy is here from Dear Life, From a Mom of Boys.  She is an amazing mom with an amazing family.  I put together this interview so we can all get to know more about her.  I knew her answers were going to be inspiring but of course she went beyond my expectations.
******************************************************************************************************************************

Hi Salena, I am so excited be featured on your blog!

The Interview:

1. When did you start blogging and why?
I started a few years ago with the typical family blog. I wasn't consistent, and it bored me. I stopped writing for quite awhile. Last year I started following Made By Munchies Mama, and started getting the itch to write again. I am a writer at heart, and I wanted my blog to reflect ME, not necessarily the family goings on. I started following all different kinds of blogs until I figured out what I wanted to write about. I turned 40 last year, and I have been feeling lost in the craziness of mommyhood...I felt like I needed an outlet to find out WHO I am. And that's when Dear Life was born!

2. What is the most valuable lesson you have learned about yourself through blogging up to this point?
I have learned that I have a voice, it's a valuable tool.
3. If you were given an all expense paid vacation (sitter included) for you and your husband, where would you go?
I would have answered this differently last year...I would have said Hawaii. But that dream is going to happen this summer, so now I would say Paris. The romantic in me is longing to go to Paris. One day I'm going to make it a reality.

4. What is one piece of advice you would give a newly married couple?
Listen to each other and think before you speak.

5. What is one piece of advice you would give to a new mother?
Cut yourself some slack; you're never going to be perfect....but you're perfect for your child.

6. What is the most important thing you wish for your kids?
The ability to find happiness and joy in any situation and that they can accomplish anything they want to.

7. How do you balance your life? Are you the type of person who sticks to routines and schedules or easy going and laid back?
I am NOT a scheduler....I am a fly by the seat kinda girl....flexibility is important to me because I never know when I'm going to have a sick kiddo.
8. Are you a morning person or a night person?
I am a total night owl. I love the peace and quiet when the boys are sleeping.

9. Besides blogging, what do you love to do on your spare time?
I love to read, I love to watch basketball and I love to decompress at the beach.

10. If you could visit Hawaii what are 3 things off the top of your head that you must do once you get here?
Trick question Salena!!!! UMMMM VISIT YOU!!!! Lay on the beach for two days and not do ANYTHING. Meet all of our Hawaiian Ohana that I haven't met before!
11. How was your school years and how do you wish for things to be different for kids?
I did not have a great school experience. I was the awkward girl, the girl who didn't fit in. I didn't have a path to follow...and I didn't know I had a voice. My wish now is for all kids to know of their worth, that everyone has a voice, and that ALL kids have the ability to achieve any goal they set for themselves.

12. Complete this sentence: “If you really knew me, you would know that I ________________”
I am really good at washing laundry and terrible at folding it!
13. What do you know for sure?
I know that God loves me, that there is a reason for everything, and I am a truly blessed person to have such a fantastic husband and five fabulous boys.

14. What was your “Ah-HA!” moment?
When I found out I was pregnant with my oldest son....I realized that there has got to be purpose in my life...and I needed to get it together for me and my son. For that I will always be grateful
15. Who is the most inspiring person to you at the moment?
My most inspiring PEOPLE in the world are my children...they inspire me to be a better person every day.

16. What is the one most important thing you would like people to know about having a child with special needs.
It's not a tragedy....Kumaka is an amazing blessing to us and everyone that knows him.

17. Share the biggest lesson you have learned in your journey with Kumaka.
The biggest lesson I have learned is that ANYTHING is possible. Never limit what you or anyone can do.

5 random facts:

  1. I never thought I would be married or have children (boy was I wrong!)
  2. I love glitter!  Sparkle queen...that's me!
  3. Guilty pleasure? America's Next Top Model!
  4. I could live on Macaroni and Cheese!
  5. I can't sing to save my life!

  6. Salena....thank you for letting me come and visit with you! I can't wait to meet you in June!

Guest Interview:: Amber @ Sneakers Over Stilettos

In my continuation to get to know my fellow blogger friends better, I have asked Amber from Sneakers Over Stilettos to do a Q&A interview.

Amber is the one I know the least about so I was so happy when she agreed to do this interview.  I love receiving comments on my blog and Amber is one of the faithful who always has encouraging words to share with me.  She is wife to Jason and mother to Ethan and Peyton.

Here is what she had to say...

1. Q: What is the most valuable lesson you have learned about yourself through blogging up to this point?
I have learned to not be so nervous of taking risks. I use to constantly wonder how I would be judged. And as much as everyone around me told me to only care what I thought of myself. I still cared what other might say. Since blogging my confidence has grown and I have taken risks. Seeing other bloggers start a business or sometimes more then one business has taught me that doing more then one thing does not make a person flaky, but it makes them interesting and inspiring. I currently have my photography business and I am in the business plan stage for a second business in the fashion world.

2.Q: If you were given an all expense paid vacation (sitter included) for you and Jason, where would you go?
Paris! Its a cliche I know, but I am obsessed with anything to do with Paris or that is Parisian. I have wanted to be there for as long as I can remember. I would stay at le Hôtel Langlois. If I could I would love to take a tour of Coco Chanel's apartment, and buy my first 2.55 Chanel flap bag! Another thing on the to do list would be to visit this fence where you place a lock on one of the links and then throw the key into the river behind the fence. Securing that you will be in love forever.

3.Q: What is one piece of advice you would give a newly married couple?
Hmmm I have only been married two years, but I would say that while its great to do everything together, don't forget about your friends and go on girls nights when you can, and don't feel guilty about it. And I would also say that you can't expect your spouse to do things as you would. You have to let them handle things within their own comfort level, if you push to hard to get them to do things the way you want you will just cause resentment. If something really is bothering you then make sure you tell your spouse. But do it in a comfortable way, choosing the wrong time or tone of conversation won't help anything. If you have kids know that your parenting styles won't match every time. In our house if Ethan does something wrong one of us will take the lead in handling the situation and we will always back each other up. If I feel that the situation could have been handled differently I will tell Jason afterwards so not to undermine him and he does the same for me. Compromise and communication should be a married couples favorite concepts.

4.Q: What is the most important thing you wish for your Ethan and Peyton?
I wish for them to be happy. And I wish for them to treat everyone and everything kindly. Ethan has already started to show signs of being earth conscious. I hope that his innocence of making the planet more and more green with never leave. When I take him out for lunch he will let a take out place know that cardboard containers are better then styrofoam without hesitance. And on occasions has asked if the ingredients in something are local. And if he ever catches you littering you better be prepared for a speech on why its wrong. The really funny part is that while we do recycle 90% of our trash. We have never really taught him about why we do this. He learned it all on his own. I hope that he keeps the way that he views ''his planet'' with him forever.

5.Q: How do you balance your life? Are you the type of person who sticks to routines and schedules or easy going and laid back?
I think I am somewhere in the middle, I makes tons and tons of lists for everything. Jason laughs because he finds them all over the house. He also laughs because I rarely use my lists, mostly because I either lose them, or I am really fickle and change my mind about what I want to do that week, or what kind of groceries I want to buy.

As far as a balance goes I let Ethan and Peyton have quite a bit of control over what we do. If its sunny out and Ethan asks to go for a walk I have no problem letting the house work sit till later or even the next day. I do everything I can to make their childhoods as fun and memorable as I can.

6.Q: Are you a morning person or a night person?
Definitely a night person! It is so hard for me to wake up. Thankfully we have a super comfy sofa, so if I am having a hard time waking up I can put a movie on for Ethan and Pea and rest a little longer on our sofa with them. Usually around 9am I am fine and up for the day. I do go to sleep at a pretty decent hour. Usually around 10pm, but I just hate leaving my comfy warm bed in the morning. Especially on the days when Ethan and Peyton decide 5am is a good time to wake up...

7.Q: Besides blogging and crafting, what do you love to do on your spare time?
When I am on my own I love to do something in photography, or if the opportunity comes up working fashion. I recently become a contributor of a friend of mines site streetscout.me. This particular project has also been another confidence builder. It took sometime to approach people with confidence and ask if I could take a photo of their outfit.

Being a stylist in the past has given me a trained eye to constantly look at what people are wearing. After Peyton was born I had to stop being a stylist, it was a little to hard to be one with two kids in tow. But I missed this part of my life so much. So this past week when I was able to put my talent for spotting trendy people to an actual use again. I was so excited to be able to get back into the fashion world. And I get to combine photography as well, which made it just that much better!

8.Q: If you could visit Hawaii what are 3 things off the top of your head that you must do once you get here?
I would want to go see the Pipeline wave. All though I do have a bit of a fear of being taken away by a wave this just seems like something that I could not pass up seeing. Keeping with that theme I might like to conquer that fear and learn to surf. Maybe not at the pipeline though.... and the last thing I would want to do is hike the kalalau trail. I enjoy hiking and I have heard the beach there is very good! And I have to add a fourth and meet you!

9.Q: How was your school years and how do you wish for things to be different for Ethan and Peyton?
My school years were pretty good. I somehow managed to avoid being involved in a lot of drama. Of course I did once and a while, but it was usually so small that I can't remember what it was about today. My one struggle I had was I was not one of those people that could remember things easily. I had to study ALOT. Ethan seems to pick up on things fairly easily and remembers them well. So I hope that's a habit that sticks so that he can have a little more free time then I did to enjoy time with his friends.

10.Q: Who is the most inspiring person to you at the moment?
Definitely Jason. He is an inventor and tinker, watching him come up with ideas inspires me to feel confident to try for things that are out of the box or not easy, and if they flop then I can try again or do something different. He is great because while he does encourage and support he's not afraid to point out the flaws in my ventures or ask really tough questions. I don't always like this, mostly because I know that it means more work if he's right. But I know he does it because he believes in me and my projects.

Thanks so much Salena for interviewing me!

Thank you Amber for sharing more about yourself here today.  I love how each of us are so different!  Amber sill be returning with a giveaway soon so keep an eye out for it!

Guest Interview:: Jenae @ Wildflower

My interview today is with with the beautiful Jenae.  She is another momma that inspires me with her honesty, she's down to earth, not afraid to challenge herself when times get rough, and she is brave in situations where I think I would shrink back.  I have asked her to come here today so we can all get to know her better.

Hey guys! I'm Jenae and I Blog Over at Wildflower. I'm a mum of two little boys, and a Photographer. I am so excited to be here today on Salena's Blog to do a guest interview for you guys. don't forget to stop by my Blog to check out her Guest interview.

  1. Q:  What is the most valuable lesson you have learned about yourself through blogging up to this point? I have actually learned a lot about myself, and what I can and will do. I am inspired by all the posts that I read. the most valuable lesson I have learned is to be real, to be you. 100% you always. be who you are and become who you want to be become. and since starting my blog I have seen myself grow and step out of my comfort zone to find who I am and become someone.

  1. Q: If you were given an all expense paid vacation (sitter included) for you and Coey, where would you go? Africa! I so want to visit there and take some beautiful pictures! I know hubs will be okay with it cause he has talked about building a house there {he talks about building houses every where so far his favs are Alaska, New Zealand, and Africa} But I have a dream of visiting Africa, there is just so many things I find beautiful there, definitely Africa!
  1. Q: What is one piece of advice you would give a newly married couple? oh gosh I still feel newlywed... hubs and I are going to be starting our 5th year together come November, crazy how time flies! we started our family pretty fast...so if your newlywed I would wait a year before having kids and travel, make memories with just the two of you...if you started fast with making babies like we did, then make time for dates even if there at home dates make time for each other.
  1. Q: What is the most important thing you wish for your boys? most important thing for my boys...hmm such a tuff question there is so much I wish for them.....I think the most important thing I wish for them is to be confident in who they are and what they are capable of learning and succeeding in. to be confident and to work hard at their dreams.

  1. Q: How do you balance your life?  Are you the type of person who sticks to routines and schedules or easy going and laid back? I'm so laid back...I do have a small schedule, but I don't always stick to it. I haven't mastered the Balancing life part yet, still working on that.
  1. Q: Are you a morning person or a night person? night person! I am always up after 10. always. unless I am to the point that mama bear needs to go to bed at the same time as kiddlets to be happy in the morning..
  1. Q: Besides blogging and crafting, what do you love to do on your spare time? Photography. I love to go out for a drive and take photographs. haven't been doing enough of that lately and I need to start taking more. I also love to run and swim.

  1. Q: If you could visit Hawaii what are 3 things off the top of your head that you must do once you get here?  first visit the beach and see the palm trees I LOVE palm trees when I went there for the first time I couldn't stop staring at them all, they are my favorite! second watch the sunset and then stay up all night to watch it rise...most beautiful you will ever see! promise! {Salena knows what I'm talking about!} then thirdly head over to see my Bloggy friend and meet her and her family!! I think that would be so fun!
  1. Q: How was your school years and how do you wish for things to be different for your boys? oh school years...we don't like to think about those...no school years for me weren't very kind...and it wasn't just my peers that made it bad it was the counselors the teachers and almost everything in between..I hope that in my kids school years that their teachers will support them, tell them that they can accomplish anything, and guide them in the direction of more education so they can accomplish their dreams.

  1. Q: Who is the most inspiring person to you at the moment? There are so many people that inspire me. of course many women in the blog world and my brother who just graduated High school and got himself a great job, but I think the most inspiring person has got to be my dad, he knows how to work hard to provide for his family and even though he didn't have an education, you wouldn't know it. That man is smart and I am proud of what he has accomplished so far in his life and I can't wait to finally see what he is working on right now.
I love the way she calls her boys Kiddlets don't you?  Please check out her blog, leave an encouraging word.  You can check out her photography here.

Andi agreed to a Q&A interview to help us get to know her better.  Here is what she had to say.

What is the meaning behind PidgApeg?

Haha! I’m such a dork and how did I know you would start with this since you already know the story.  Eh hem… I used to be the operations manager for a property management company.  So, my co-worker, Molly, brought me a fax.  I asked her who it was from.  She started giggling and said, “Aww, how cute.  It’s from Pidgapeg.”  I’m like “What, how cute is that?”  So we went on for a minute or so how funny that name was and what it meant and oh how cute...  I took the fax and looked at it again.  At the top of the page it was smeared.  “Uh, hey Molls.  It says Pg1.jpg.”

We were laughing.  {I’m very easily entertained.}  So, from then on out everything was “Oh man, that’s so PidgApeg!” Or, “Haha! You pulled a PidgApeg!”  When it came time to pick a business name I figured that one didn’t have any limitations between my shops as to what I could fill them with.  I tweaked the spelling to help with pronouncing it.  I got the nickname “Pidg” from Etsians.  Through sales and chatting they just started referring to me as Pidg.

What is your story about why you blog?  What direction do you wish for it to go in?

Can I be honest?  This is a whole diabolical plot to take over the world.  Sure, I have 6 minions at home but they’re just the tip of the iceberg…Huh?  Oh… wink.

Umm, I started blogging to network for the shops, to build a platform for my writing and a few other friends to display their talents.  And of course the ‘cheap’ therapy is helpful!  Truth be told I would love to gain an actual following so that others will want to follow our compilation of writings and tell others about us.  I like the community of blogging; the support network.  I think we need to all put our hopes for our blogs in the same pot, then divide and conquer on how we can best help each other reach our goals.  It’s do-able chickees!  Lot’s of great minds out there!

Where do you get the inspiration for all of the beautiful things you make?

First of all, thank you Salena!  You are the sweetest…truly!  The jewelry inspiration comes from my girls.  All 4 of them are so different and each piece is a compliment to their personalities.  Also, there is a series of novels {unpublished work} one of my besties has written.  I’m addicted and her characters also play a role in my jewelry.  PidgApeg Cottage, that’s for me.  I have an addiction to homespun crafts and nature itself.  I love creating.  Dang, if my kids would cooperate I could pump out so much more that’s locked in my mind.  Generally, just looking outside gets my creative juices flowing…especially Fall!

What advice do you have for other blended families.

Be tolerant, be willing to embrace changeLove others for their differences and be patient.  Bless my husband that he took us all on.  And he loves us.  {Truth be told, he loves my kids; I happened to come with the deal!}  He takes the time to realize sometimes, even though he doesn’t understand it all, it’s just the way things are done around here.  We on the other hand give him the benefit of the doubt that he’s still new to certain issues.  {especially in the beginning}  He doesn’t have any biological kids of his own.  He woke up one day and had 6.  {Actually when we began dating I had taken in 2 other teenage girls so I actually had 8 kids.}  Don’t sweat the little stuff, it only gets in the way.
Love unconditionally, the rest will work itself out.

If you and your husband received an all expense paid vacation (sitter included) where would you go?

Haha!  I just read that to Po and we both agreed – absolutely nowhere!  We’re such nerds.  We’re both homebodies and would love the quiet and time to ourselves with everything we needed right here.  I would love to have time to go out to an uninterrupted dinner with my parents. {unless they were the sitters, poor things!}  If they gave us money instead of a vacation, we would fly in a few close friends and Po’s family.  Does that count?

How do you find the time to have quality time with all of your kids?

We have “dates”.  My kids have been raised to be simple so just running errands is a nice time if we get one-on-one time.  I seriously do have 5 chairs in my craft room that are filled daily.  Not always all at once so we can have those few moments together.  We do lots of snuggling and chit chat anywhere we can.  They trade in church on who gets to sit next to me and Po and whisper funny things.  We absorb every possible moment we can find.  Honestly I am not as successful as I know I could be, because I don’t send my children out of the room when I’m working.  But they know they are loved, and they know they are heard.  Oh, and my daughter in college calls everyday on her way to work and we email throughout the day.  Quality time doesn’t have to be long or extravagant.  It just needs to happen consistently, even if it’s in short bursts.

Besides blogging and crafting, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I love baking and cooking from scratch.  I love eating.  I love writing.  Fine, I write, and write and if I’m not writing I’m thinking of writing.  I have a love affair with the written word.  I ache for it.  Strangely enough, I don’t have the time to read much anymore, but oh I would if I could.

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned about yourself through blogging up to this point?

To be me.  Some days I’m spiritual and {slightly, hopefully} inspiring.  Most days, I’m quirky and ADD.  Sometimes I’m ornery.  But at the end of the day, or post, if you will; I have to stay true to me.  It’s hard for me to walk on eggshells around others.  I wouldn’t want others to do that around me.  I know there have been a few posts that people don’t agree with and I’m so alright with that.  That’s part of being them.  Whatever is written or expressed needs to come from me.  Just as we all have the ability to choose our bloggy favorites; so should be the choice to choose what we write on our own piece of the bloggy block.

How do you balance your life?  Are you the type of person who sticks to routines and schedules or easy going and laid back?

I am a list maker, routine writer-outer and schedule freak.  But…I have children.  So, I have adapted to the laid back routine and have become the queen of improvising!  We do the best we can.  I make a plan and then allow for change.  A sense of humor equals balance.  Anything I can’t handle is then doused with prayer and followed by a large dose of laughter …usually at myself!

If you could visit Hawaii what are three things that you must do once you get here?

Umm…visit Salena and babysit the girls so she and Rudy could go out by themselves.
Go to the USS Arizona Memorial …I’m a World War II junkie
Go scuba diving.  I’m a certified diver that can’t afford to dive.
{Maybe I should stand on the freeway off-ramp and hold up one of those cardboard signs…good idea?  No? wink}

How were your school years and how do you wish for things to be different for kids?

My school years were fine.  Honestly, I loved the education, I hated the people.  {Endearing, I know…wink}  I was the type that knew everyone but didn’t have friends.  I didn’t like cliques so I stayed away from them. The drama was what I hated about school.  Kids now, dang, it’s the same thing only multiplied by 100.  I wish days were shorter and filled with a more concentrated time for actual education.  When I home schooled my oldest our school day was 3-4 hours and she ended up skipping a year and graduating early.  {we just bypassed public middle school and she went back in for highschool}  I wish that kids could be kind to each other….and world peace…ya know, all the same stuff.

What is the most important thing you wish for your kids?

Only one?  Really Salena? Sheesh… world dominance…no, heath…wealth…happiness….  No, dang it that’s 3.  Okay, fine…
Truly?  A testimony of Christ.  There, that wasn’t so hard.  I really believe that through that they will be enabled to love themselves then in turn love others.  Everything comes with a true testimony of his atoning sacrifice; the ability to forgive, to be obedient, to remain worthy, to have charity.  If they might shine His light throughout their lives, then I would feel pretty darn complete.

Complete this sentence:  If you really knew me, you would know that I ______.”

That Salena totally set me up and made new questions!  What?!  All of this pondering and stuff, you know I’m wordy.  This is going to be the longest blog post EVER!  Haha!  Okay, {deep breath}

“If you really knew me, then you would know that I have been blessed to see darkness turn to light.”

I laugh, and joke; I’m sarcastic and witty.  {Well, that’s what I tell myself anyway.} But honestly, there are deep, unyielding scars.  I choose to turn those reminders into strengths and find the small, daily blessings that line those nimbus clouds.  I’m a fighter.  I’m a survivor.  I am grateful.  I am blessed.

Who is the most inspiring person to you at the moment?

I’m cheating again.  There are 6.  I birthed them all, I was there, it was beautiful. {wink} They are my everything; my breath, my light, my instructors in life, the reason for my existence.  They give me purpose and strength.  They pick me up when I feel I can’t stand any longer.  I am their guardian but they are my angels.  Awful things…I’m so glad their mine.

Thank you, thank you Salena for having me!  You are so one of my bloggy buds and I’m happy to say we have a real friendship on the side as well!  Soon, when I get my act together, maybe you can come over and visit me where the readers are friendly and the writer is well…a little un-well.  {wink}
